12/20/2023 0 Comments Best ammo for xds 9mm![]() ![]() Overloading a lesser caliber is a bad policy based on a bad premise. like Fred has reiterated and I also have often said, if you need more power you need a bigger caliber. I usually carry the 40cal version, but shoot the 9mm Service on a regular basis, and would not feel "unarmed" should I choose to carry it (as I have occasionally done) with any of a number of self defense rounds now available, including some of the +P offerings.Īnd truly. It is rugged, reliable, and will handle a good variety of bullet types. The 9mm Service 4" gun is a good carry option, and even in the summer with an inside the waistband holster (IWB) and a loose shirt is easily concealed. ![]() big time! 9mm is different in that what is now considered a "standard" pressure load is far below what the round was original loaded to, and the case is far more capable of higher pressures than the 40S&W. Any slight problem, like a bit of setback from chambering the round one too many times (the first time might be one too many with faulty ammo) and things will go wrong. +P is a designation for INCREASED PRESSURE past the SAAMI spec, and in a 40 that would be a no no. ![]() Sure there are certain powders that can achieve some pretty high velocities out of a 40cal pistol, but they do it within the SAAMI pressure spec. No, there is no "+P" for 40S&W, and anything you see that claims to be that is false, dangerous, and should not be fired. Yes, the 9mm types will handle pretty sporty "+P" ammo from a reliable source. What I found out was that it'll feed anything, but one of my mags didn't like PDX-1, and that on a rapid mag dump (8 rounds, 1.8 seconds avg), the GS was the only load that would stay entirely within the ""A" head zone of an IPSC target.I have a variety of XD types in both 40cal and 9mm. Yes, that was 400 rounds of premium JHP's. I wouldn't say that it's necessary, but I like to do it for peace of mind.ĮTA-and well, when I finally chose a carry load for my Baer (230gr Golden Saber), I put ten mags of Ranger-T, HST, Golden Saber, Gold Dot, and PDX-1 through it. It prevents bullet setback getting too extreme, and let's me refresh my carry mags. But there's other, just as reliably performing, less expensive loads.Ĭlick to expand.124 or 147 grain, yes, I agree-contingent on Juanderful's XD shooting it reliably, with what he considers acceptible accuracy and control in rapid fire from all of his carry/SD mags loaded to full capacity (which, being in CA, is all of ten rounds.guess if there's a bright side to that, he doesn't expend as much ammo verifying his loads.).Īnd, personally, every few months I like to shoot my carry ammo. IF DPX was the only round my pistol fed reliably, sure.the price would be worth it. Should you anticipate a greater need, the company also includes a 9-round magazine with the pistol. That’s eight rounds before a mandatory reload. ![]() Yet, they are large enough to pack in seven 9mm rounds in a flush fitting magazine. I can get close to 100 rounds of Ranger-T or Gold Dot for the same price as 20 rounds of DPX so, after testing several magazines with the load to make sure it's good to go (which in my case is usually around 100 rounds).the DPX becomes a very expensive proposition. Designed for concealed carry, the XD-S line of pistols are thin handguns: about 0.9 across at the grip. The DPX he chose is a good bullet, but the monometal HP's tend to act like heavier bullets as far as penetration, etc.the one thing about them, though, is that they are usually considerably more expensive than others. That being said.his blanket disclaimer of 147gr rounds won't expand is outdated. I will say, though, that if he finds his pistol does not shoot heavier bullets to point of aim, then he's got every good reason to go with another. In his car glass reference-what if you need to shoot out from your vehicle-in, say, the case of a carjacking? Barrier penetration in a carry/self defense load is not a bad thing at all. I REALLY disagree with his premise that a "civilian" (police are civilians too.) needs less of a bullet than law enforcement. ![]()
